Petroglyph LG29B

This is a digitally enhanced reproduction of a petroglyph found in the Lake George region of upstate New York (USA).

Archaeologists estimate that the rock outcropping on which the petroglyph appears to be at least one thousand years old.

The center image measures slightly over ten feet in length and is referred to in regional lore as ogisar aghcon, which is likely an anglicized derivation of the Native American words otsistah otkon (star spirit).

     "We all have dark secrets, Monroe. Dark secrets that should never see the light of day, else we will become ruined, humiliated, and, ultimately, exiled," said Alsiendo, a one-time aspirant of Heaven's guard, but now nothing more than a twisted and bitter trainer of demons.

     "Dark secrets like commitment, integrity, and compassion," asked Monroe, a fledgling tempter of souls.

     "Yes," replied Alsiendo, through sharp, gritted teeth. "And especially compassion."

     Said the Devil to his minions on New Year's Eve, "My resolutions for the coming year are threefold: One - cause irreconcilable spiritual schisms. Two – further propagate the notion that I am either just a metaphor (a convenient container to hold the evils of the world), or simply superstitious nonsense (suitable only for the unenlightened or the downtrodden). And three - above all else, continue to lead others to love less and rage more."

     The crowd went wild.

     Then the clock struck midnight and all fell silent.

     At the sixth stroke, the Devil began to chuckle.
