     Said the Devil to his minions on New Year's Eve, "My resolutions for the coming year are threefold: One - cause irreconcilable spiritual schisms. Two – further propagate the notion that I am either just a metaphor (a convenient container to hold the evils of the world), or simply superstitious nonsense (suitable only for the unenlightened or the downtrodden). And three - above all else, continue to lead others to love less and rage more."

     The crowd went wild.

     Then the clock struck midnight and all fell silent.

     At the sixth stroke, the Devil began to chuckle.
